Next Steps
Membership and baptism
How to pursue membership and baptism at Covenant, and the step that comes before both.
Begin with Christ
Membership and baptism both come after something more basic: trusting Christ Himself. If you have not yet turned from your sin and rested on Christ, start there. Read the good news, come on a Sunday, or call us at 540-349-0125. We would be glad to open the Scriptures with you.
Membership
Church membership is a covenant commitment to a local body of believers: to worship, serve, and be cared for together under the Word. The path at Covenant has four steps:
- 1
Apply
Complete a membership application. Download it below, or pick one up at the Next Steps table after any Sunday service; completed applications can be handed to a volunteer at the table.
- 2
Attend the membership class
The class is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended: it walks through the biblical foundation for membership, our Confession of Faith, and important aspects of the church.
- 3
Meet with the leaders
A membership interview with the church's leaders: an opportunity to share your faith in Christ, your desire to join, and any questions you have.
- 4
Congregational affirmation
The congregation affirms new applicants, welcoming them into the church family.
Baptism
Biblical baptism is an essential practice of the Christian faith, representing the believer’s union with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. It is an ordinance that publicly declares one’s faith and repentance and acknowledges God’s gracious work in salvation, and it signifies entry into the covenant community of the church. If you have questions about baptism or are interested in being baptized, speak with a volunteer at the Next Steps table after any Sunday service, or contact us.
